Jukola 2014 – Kuopio

Another year another Jukola – fighter planes, 1600+ teams, tough and demanding orienteering, sauna, hot tub, Mosquitos and not at least a fantastic orienteering from dusk to dawn.     BSK (Bækkelaget) has rented a house in Vehmersalmi 5k from the arena with full Service by the local family. This included 24 h service, food, wood burned sauna and hot tub and not at least an enthusiastic approach to”that” running in the night stuff. The BSK Babes and Gentlemen were well prepared after a compulsory “elephant...

Hill, mountains and more climb!

The theme for my training since the European Champs in Portugal has been “hills is good”, “more hills is awesome” and climb has been an ascending number in the training diary. The training period has included a training camp in World Champs relevant terrain in Lavarone – Italy and a World Cup round in Kongsberg, Norway. The injury I got during the long distance at the European Champs in the right calf (the joint of the muscle and ligament) gave me a week or two with alternative training. The calf has only given...

With legs between 370m and 2 840m - a mix of flat, uphill and downhill stages there are a legs for everyone’s taste. This is probably also the reason while this Saturday in May is a joyful day in Oslo with more than 3 200 teams running around in the streets.   PwC had 18 teams on the start line including two “elite” teams in the Elite corporate class. Since...

Møn a Danish beauty

Precious metal weekend in Denmark Once again – I as an orienteer had the pleasure of running at Møn in “Klinteskoven” one of the best orienteering terrains in Denmark. My medal statistic from Møn in the four Danish Champs I have races there, counts two gold medals and one silver, so I packed the bag and flew south with a good feeling. I haven’t felt fantastic the last couple of weeks but have trained more clever and up to the Danish middle distance champs so the shape should be good and with a bit more orienteering...

Skåla rett opp – up up and just up

Skåla rett opp is an uphill race covering 8,2k with 1 820m climb which gives and average assent of 22%. At Scottish 6 days I had a chat with Jon Duncan and somehow we ended up talking about the great mountains in Norway, and Skåla suddenly came into the conversation. The race caught my attention and Jon promised me a pint if I could beat his time of 1:11:07. It turned out to be an awesome time very hard to beat. As PwC is sponsoring the event, I was lucky to get a start number even though the event as been fully booked for half a year. I...

The hunted, is now the hunter!

After been hunted in the wild by everything from snakes, kangaroos to a  moose, the luck for the local inhabitants in the forest have now changed. After a couple of hours at the shooting range and a few hours behind the school desk, I have now earned the right to hunt! So mighty animals watch out! I know – two errors in distinguishing between a hawk and a moose…… the question is do you feel safe…. Did you like this? Share...
